Basic installationTo run the installer, get the Gzipped ISO image, gunzip it, burn it to a CD, and boot it with a floppy or umass device connected. The installer will set up a basic NAT/Router configuration, similar to that provided by hardware "Cable/DSL Routers". You will have to choose the internal and external and external network interfaces, and configure the external interface. The installer does not currently support using dhcp on the external interface. This transcript shows an example installation. This will configure a NAT/Firewall with the external address 10.6.4.2 in the network 10.6.4.0/24. The internal address defaults to 192.168.1.1, serving the 192.168.1.0/24 netblock. The firewall will give out DHCP addresses in the range 192.168.1.200 - 192.168.1.235 on the internal interface. The installer exists to allow you to set up a basic NAT configuration quickly and easily. More complex configurations can be achieved by editing the standard configuration files on the installed system. If this is to be done any time after the initial boot, the /etc filesystem must first be remounted read/write with the command: mount -u -o rw /etc Example Transcript/etc/rc does not exist, starting installerinstall to: 1. Floppy (/dev/fd0a) 2. Umass (/dev/sd0a) 2 enter a host name:test-fw enter the external interface name:rl0 enter the internal interface name:dc0 enter your external ip address:10.6.4.2 enter the netmask:255.255.255.0 enter the default gateway:10.6.4.1 choose a nameserver:10.6.4.7 choose a root password: again: | |||
